Per Venus, la moda upcycling è molto più di un processo: è un gesto spontaneo che dà nuova vita a materiali dimenticati, trasformandoli in vere storie da indossare.

Giusy Torre, in arte Venus, non crea semplicemente abiti. Trasforma. Trasforma stoffe dimenticate in manifesti d’identità, imperfezioni in stile, difetti in forza. Il suo nome d’arte nasce da uno strabismo – un dettaglio che molti nasconderebbero, ma che per lei è diventato simbolo di unicità. Una bellezza fuori dalle regole, come tutte le sue creazioni.

Fin da bambina, Venus ha avuto un istinto naturale per il riuso. Giocava con le Barbie, ma non le vestiva con abiti comprati: li costruiva lei, raccogliendo perline, lacci, spille trovate in casa. Ogni oggetto era un frammento di mondo trasformato in qualcosa di nuovo. Quel gioco è diventato un linguaggio. Crescendo, quell’attitudine è esplosa in uno stile personale, libero, riconoscibile, che oggi vive nei suoi cappelli scenografici e nelle giacche che cambiano il tono di un intero look con un solo gesto. Perché, dice, puoi indossare una t-shirt bianca e un jeans qualsiasi, ma se ci aggiungi una giacca con carattere o un cappello particolare, cambi tutto. Dai la vibe.

Il suo processo creativo non conosce regole. Non parte da un disegno né da un’idea fissa: parte da un’emozione. Dal dettaglio di un tessuto, da una toppa trovata per caso, o semplicemente da come si sente quel giorno. Se è agitata, le sue mani creano pezzi taglienti, grezzi, spigolosi. Se è serena, nascono lavori delicati, poetici. Ogni creazione è un riflesso del momento, un flusso che prende forma su materiali che portano già dentro una vita vissuta.

Ci sono pezzi che, più di altri, raccontano la profondità di questo percorso. My Shivah, ad esempio, non è solo un accessorio: è un rito. Ogni frammento cucito è una versione di sé lasciata andare, una pelle bruciata per farne emergere un’altra. Non parla di ciò che Venus è, ma di tutto ciò che ha attraversato per diventarlo. È una celebrazione della trasformazione. Esraa Veil, invece, nasce dal desiderio di fondere due identità: la sua e quella di un’amica egiziana che stima profondamente. Un velo che non separa, ma connette. Un simbolo di forza silenziosa e appartenenza.

Nella scelta dei materiali, Venus è una cacciatrice di storie. Raccoglie abiti dimenticati, vecchia bigiotteria, spille della nonna, tessuti che sembrano inconciliabili ma che insieme creano armonie inaspettate. Denim e pizzo, pelle e lana, glitter e ruggine: accostamenti che potrebbero sembrare assurdi, ma che sotto le sue mani trovano un equilibrio visivo e sensoriale. Non cerca solo materiali, cerca personalità. I suoi capi devono parlare, non restare in silenzio.

L’upcycling, però, è tutt’altro che semplice. A differenza del creare da zero, si lavora su qualcosa che esiste già, con vincoli, limiti, tagli e difetti. Richiede ingegno, pazienza, capacità di improvvisazione. Ma è proprio in questa complessità che nasce l’autenticità. Per Venus, l’upcycling è più vivo, più sincero, più umano. Ogni pezzo è irripetibile, perché nasce da una storia reale, da un oggetto che ha già vissuto e che ora vive di nuovo, in una nuova forma.

E forse è proprio qui che risiede la sua forza più grande: nel modo in cui l’upcycling può cambiare il nostro rapporto con la moda. Non più consumo rapido, non più oggetti da indossare e buttare, ma pezzi da sentire. La sostenibilità, per Venus, non è una rinuncia: è una rivoluzione di stile. “Essere sostenibili senza rinunciare allo stile”, dice, “è anche un bel colpo di scena.”

Il pubblico lo percepisce. Chi guarda i suoi lavori non resta indifferente. C’è chi si commuove per un dettaglio che richiama un ricordo, chi si sorprende nel vedere materiali poveri diventare opere cariche di potenza. Ogni pezzo è un incontro. E ogni incontro, una piccola scossa.

Venus non ha un artista di riferimento fisso. Si ispira a chi sa dare voce a ciò che è rotto, scartato, dimenticato. A chi non cerca la perfezione, ma la verità nei materiali. A chi vive l’upcycling con le mani sporche e il cuore in fiamme. Se c’è autenticità, lei la riconosce subito.

A chi vuole iniziare questo percorso, dà un consiglio semplice e rivoluzionario: non aspettare. Non serve l’attrezzatura perfetta, né l’idea giusta. Parti da quello che hai. Una maglietta vecchia, un bottone, un pezzo di stoffa. Gioca, sperimenta, sbaglia. Perché l’upcycling non è una tecnica, è un modo di guardare il mondo. E spesso, proprio dal brutto, nasce il bello più vero.
